To get there, just follow this map and these directions:
From Milwaukee:
- Take East I-94 south to Chicago, IL.
- In Chicago, IL you have two choices: you can either take East I-94 through
downtown or you can take the East I-294 bypass around the city. Be aware
that I-294 is a toll road and there is a $0.75 toll on I-94 just north of
Gurnee, IL.
- On the south side of Chicago, IL, take East I-94 towards Gary, IN.
- On the south side of Garry, IN, take South I-65 towards Indianapolis, IN.
- In Chicago, IL you have two choices: you can either take South I-65
through downtown or you can take the North I-465 bypass around the north side
of the city.
- In Indianapolis, IN, take East I-70 towards Columbus, OH.
- In Chicago, IL you have two choices: you can either take East I-70 through
downtown or you can take the East I-270 bypass around the south side of the
city.
- Take East I-70 towards Wheeling, WV.
- Take East I-70 towards Washington, PA.
- Near New Stanton, PA, East I-70 merges with East I-76 (the Pennsylvania
Turnpike). Be aware that East I-70/76 on this stretch is a toll road.
The toll from the point of entering the Pennsylvania Turnpike to exiting it at Breezewood, PA is approximately $3.60.
- In Breezewood, PA, East I-70 splits off of East I-76 and heads towards
Hagerstown, MD. Be aware that East I-70 is actually on surface streets
in Breezewood, PA. There is even a stoplight! Be careful for other
traffic.
- Take East I-70 towards Hagerstown, MD.
- Pass through Hagerstown, MD on East I-70.
- Exit off of East I-70 on South MD 66 (Mapleville Road).
- Turn right (South) on MD 66 (Mapleville Road).
- Head south on South MD 66 (Mapleville Road) towards Boonsboro, MD.
You will cross US 40.
- In Boonsboro, MD, take MD 66 (Mapleville Road) into town until you reach
Alternate US 40 (Old National Road).
- Turn left onto East Alternate US 40 (Old National Road).
- Take East Alternate US 40 (Old National Road) all the way through town
until you start to go up Fox's Gap.
- Turn left on Washington Monument Road near the top of the gap. The
South Mountain Inn will be on your right.
- At the end of the road will be the entrance to Washington Monument State
Park.
- To get to our campsite, enter the park. Take the right fork of the
park road (one way), go to the top of the hill, then down the hill. At
the bottom of the hill, on the left side of the road, are two picnic tables
and on the right is a parking lot. That is where we will park.
- We will camp in the open field on the left side of the road. We will
stay as close to the road as practical to leave as much space for drilling and
firing the cannon.
