A modern U.S. Army M109A5 howitzer from Battery C, 1st Battalion,
121st Field Artillery (Wisconsin Army National Guard) came out
to the quarry. This is also the training site to this local Guard
unit, which also owns the 12 pound Napoleon cannon tube that the re-enactors
use. Here the men of Battery B, 4th U.S. Light Artillery
get to see how a modern howitzer works. Corporal Scott Gutzke, also
a member of this Guard unit and a cannon crew member in real life, showed
the men of Battery B how to operate this modern equivalent to their gun.
Also, the men of Battery B taught the Guardsmen how to fire a Napoleon
while at training camp at the Halquest Quarry in Sussex, WI on April 28-29,
2001. Photo courtesy of Lyle Laufenberg.
